Admintasia Support: Forum Spam is Unrelentless

Posted in Blog, Site News by thomaqui on November 13th, 2012

I have had a few different forums for support and have had to shut down one and then start another because I get so much spam.

I am currently using BuddyPress integrated with Admintasia’s WordPress install and I have a few spam prevention plugins designed to require Captcha for every post and to filter spam posts.

These are definitely not bots now because they are getting through those 2 things.

Does anybody have recommendations for a way to deliver support and prevent spam?

    http://www.vbulletin.com

These guys have been in business for way too long. I used this software it worked wonders. Still there will always be some spam that will go thru. But there are much options, One option they gave you in this software, is to activate an account before letting it post. So the registered user has an account but can not post prior to your approval. I think thats a very good idea! EXTJS is using this software. ++ much more sites.

    Hope this help,
    Michael

If you are using buddypress, I would recommend the Stop Spammer Registrations Plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/stop-spammer-registrations-plugin/)

It completely stopped all spam posts and registrations on our site…

I appreciate it Jeff. I am going to try that and I am looking at a live Chat support as well.

Thanks Michael. I have used vbulletin for forums and it is great. Very good against spammers if you manage it properly.

Ok, I loaded that plugin and I think it is working well now. I had to write scripts to delete the almost 100K spam users that registered in just over 1 year. I hope that Stop Spammer Registrations continues to block them. Thanks for your suggestions Jeff and Michael.
